How far between an electrical outlet and a sink?
To optimize your safety at home, you must respect a certain distance between the location of your electrical sockets and the location of your electrical sockets sink or your basin. Water and current do not actually make good cleaning. In addition, a simple splash can expose you to great dangers.
The main electrical outlets in the bathroom
Before talking about distance, it is important to remember that there are different types of sector catches. But the most reassuring and safe in a bathroom are the sockets in very low safety voltage. These can deliver a current of 12 volts, since they are generally equipped with a 230 volt separation transformer.
For additional safety, there is also no harm in opting for shutter plugs, i.e. for models capable of providing additional protection against the damage caused by the use of the valve water projections. For bathrooms, it is finally important to choose NFC 15-100 standard electrical outlets, models that take into account the volume of the room.
Connection constraints for each bathroom volume
Speaking of volume, there are three main volumes for the bathroom, including:
• volume 0 for the submerged part of a water point,
• volume 1 for the part above 2.25 metres high from the ground
• and volume 2 for a distance of 60 cm around volume 1.
Therefore, each volume corresponds to connection constraints. Logically, no electrical apparatus or socket shall be installed in volume 0. It is, however, possible to install 12V TBTS lighting approved IPX7.
No connection can also be made in Volume 1, as it is the place where water will be projected. The only possible installation is an IPX5-approved TBTS 12 V switch.
In addition, power outlets, including ground catches, are prohibited in Volume 2. Only razor sockets may be installed provided that separation transformers are not forgotten. Above volume 2, the installation of any device and wall electrical outlet is possible and safe.
Here, it should be noted that the distances to be respected are not the same between bathroom toilets and electrical outlets and kitchen equipment and electrical outlets.
